I am currently teaching guitar, ukulele, and songwriting via the magic of the internet. I began teaching a few lessons each week back in April in order to raise a bit of money for a couple non-profit organizations. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well online teaching has worked. It has been enjoyable and productive, and it has provided some needed human interaction for both teacher and students during the pandemic.

My schedule is flexible. If you are interested in lessons, please get in touch.

I hope you are staying safe and healthy. Keep up the hope and try to stay busy doing creative, joyful things. These are hard times. Let's stick together and help one another.

Best,
Chuck Cheesman

Dear friends,

We are in the midst of a very difficult time unlike any other I have witnessed during my lifetime. I hope this finds you safely sheltered at home and in good health. Keep up the hope. We will pull through this, and hopefully we can find a way to be a stronger, more united people.

For the time being, all of my work is canceled. I have no gigs to announce, and I'm using this time to focus on my family and a little bit of my own music. We are strictly following guidelines to shelter at home to help stop the spread of this pandemic. I hope you are as well.

For students of mine, please note that the Multnomah Arts Center is closed until at least April 28th.

I have a deep concern for many of my fellow musicians. Many professional musicians operate completely independent of any regular employment. It's a constant hustle to the next gig or teaching opportunity. All of these gigs are now wiped from the calendar for the near future. It's going to be incredibly difficult and stressful for them.

There are ways to help if you are in the position to give:
  • Take some online music lessons directly from a music teacher via Skype or other platform. (Contact me. I'm willing to help you find a teacher.)
  • Buy music and merch directly from artist websites.
  • Attend online concerts and donate.

In regard to that last bullet point, The Alberta Rose Theater in Portland is offering a series of twenty streaming concerts for $100. I can think of no better way to support a great local venue and some of our favorite Portland musical artists, and also to keep the economy moving along a bit. Get a ticket and enjoy a huge amount of wonderful music.

Please stay safe and do your part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Try to keep yourself busy doing things you love to do with the people you love at home. We all need to tend not only to our physical health, but our mental health as well.

I look forward to getting back to music with you and your families!

Best,
Chuck Cheesman

The Summer 2018 catalog is out for Multnomah Arts Center, and registration for classes is open. My teaching at Multnomah Arts Center has grown considerably during the last few sessions. I've got a wide variety of classes I am offering for children and adults. I love teaching at MAC, and it's a joy to be around so many enthusiastic teachers, artists, and students!

Beginning the fall, we will also be offering ukulele classes for youth and also some new guitar specialty courses. In addition to private students, I am hoping to offer between 10 and 15 classes each session there! Due to my full schedule, I am no longer teaching any guitar out of my home studio.
